Airport Seeks Vendors to Generate Passenger Data

A California airport authority is looking for ways to better passenger experiences by tracking movement data.

Sacramento County is looking for ways to better passenger experiences by tracking movement data at Sacramento International Airport.

To do so, the county has requests for statements of interest (RSI) out for sensor technology such as:

  • Wi-Fi tracking sensors
  • Integrated Bluetooth beacon capability
  • Stereoscopic cameras to expand the system as necessary
  • Infrared cameras to expand the system as necessary
  • IoT solutions for future needs
Software needs include:

  • Cloud servers to store and access data offsite
  • A cloud-based dashboard of the data
  • Machine learning algorithms to forecast traveler wait times and capacity metrics
  • A data application program interface to deliver data to digital media, a management system and third parties
  • Facial and license place recognition software
  • An alert management tool for text and email messages
The intent is to collect and commercialize this data, harnessing it to influence buying behaviors inside the airport. Future uses could include security improvements.

The solution must include monitoring and analysis capabilities for:

  • Checkpoints
  • Customs
  • Ticketing
  • Curbside areas
  • Terminals
  • Gates
  • Shuttle stops
  • Baggage claim
  • Concession areas
  • Lounges
  • Restrooms
  • Attractions
  • Bluetooth interactions
The RSI also lists commercial relationships with existing businesses as a requirement. The contract will be a five-year term, through January 2024, based on a rent or fee structure.

Submissions must be in by Nov. 9.
