IT security is an important concern at all levels of government. The term "security" refers to a lot of concerns, from network safety to data protection.
In this video interview, Ellen Sundra of ForeScout discusses the importance of knowing which devices and programs are on a network.
“You can’t protect what you can’t see. More importantly, you can’t protect yourself against what you can’t see,” Sundra said.
Allowing devices, even Internet of Things (IoT) devices, easy access to a network can allow “the threats [to] move vertically throughout your organization. It’s another hop that it can take,” Sundra said.
Also in the video, Dale Jablonsky of KPMG discussed moving government into the modern era with security tools, including data security use cases using blockchain.
“There’s other security prevention technologies that are emerging that are very important now as the government starts to find out how far back we are behind in security,” Jablonsky said.
These technologies could allow government to “leapfrog because government is behind and should not have to take that linear path forward,” Jablonsky said.
