The most populous county in the U.S. has selected Tyler Technologies to modernize its budgeting process.

Los Angeles County has signed a deal with the Texas-based public-sector technology firm to implement its AI-enabled Priority Based Budgeting (PBB) software, which uses AI machine learning to streamline government budgeting processes.

According to the company’s website, the software “enables state, local governments and school districts to easily uncover budget savings, identify revenue opportunities, better allocate funds and create sustainable, fiscally responsible budgets,” with the help of AI and deep data analytics.

The county, for its part, manages a sizable annual budget — $47.9 billion for fiscal year 2025-26 (a nearly 3 percent reduction from 2024-25). The region is home to nearly 10 million people, and the county employs more than 117,000 people across 38 departments.

“Priority Based Budgeting will enable data-driven decision-making, allowing the county to allocate resources more effectively to high-impact services,” said Chris Webster, president of Tyler’s ERP & Civic Division, in a press release.
