As a result of county voters’ March 2017 approval of a sales tax that’s generating $355 million per year to combat homelessness, the Chief Executive’s Office and the Office of the Chief Information Officer together are overseeing this major initiative.
Last week, the CEO’s Office issued an RFI seeking "enterprise-level, operationally proven, innovative, and sustainable solutions to achieve identified outcomes for the County’s strategic priorities related to preventing and combating homelessness."
Leaders are specifically looking for systems that are ready to be used and can integrate with current systems.
The county is interested in solutions that are user-centric and outcome-driven, according to the RFI, which spells out several “Challenge Categories” and “Potential Solutions/Investment Areas.” Responses to the RFI should specify which challenge is being addressed — housing, data, empowering customers and operational effectiveness.
Proposals that address more than one concern are encouraged, and no specific budget has been announced for the project.
Potential IT solutions for these categories include:
- Improve access and placement to housing options;
- Create centralized and electronic self-service options for resources, as well as data availability, data quality and data analysis; and
- Mobile access and communication tools for county employees. Mobile access and caseworker autonomy are two county priorities.
A County Homeless Initiative/Chief Information Office Technology Innovation Forum to share information and answer questions will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Nov. 1 at the United Way of Los Angeles, Penthouse Suite, 1150 S. Olive St., Los Angeles.
Vendors must register here to do business with LA County.
Techwire will have more coverage of this topic in coming days.
