Microsoft's layoffs will affect 122 Bay Area and remote workers, according to a filing to California officials viewed by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Redmond-Wash.-based tech giant said 86 workers would be laid off in Mountain View and Santa Clara as of July 12. Another 36 remote workers tied to the Bay Area are also being let go.

The company cited a decision to "reorganize and restructure operations" as the reasons for the layoffs. The company previously said it is seeking to be more nimble and remove layers of management. Microsoft is laying off around 3% of its workforce overall, or around 7,000 workers.

It's the biggest layoff round for Microsoft since January 2023, when it cut 10,000 jobs. The company also laid off 1,900 gaming division workers in early 2024, including 162 in the Bay Area.

The layoffs include 82 software engineers, technical program management workers, product management engineers and one product marketing manager in Mountain View and three software engineering workers in Santa Clara.

The 36 remote workers span software engineering, product management and marketing, financial analysis, data engineering and other roles.
