Napa County is ahead of the Voter’s Choice Act curve, according to Registrar of Voters John Tuteur.
The county updated its ballot marking devices in 2018 but was otherwise up to date with Secretary of State 2017 certifications for its Dominion ICX machines.
“Napa has moved to an upgraded system, Dominion Voting’s D-Suite 5.2, which was developed and certified specifically for use in California,” Dominion Vice President of Government Affairs Kay Stimson wrote in an email to Techwire. “It includes both upgraded hardware (tabulators, printers, scanners, servers) and upgraded software. The upgrades are largely focused on security enhancements and support of a broader range of hardware to meet voters’ needs, as well as additional election reporting functionality.”
The county has used Dominion products for 42 years, in one format or another, according to Tuteur.
“ICX machines allow the voter multiple opportunities to make sure their ballot reflects their choices before they cast the ballot,” Tuteur told Techwire.
The ImageCast system will be good for “many election cycles,” Tuteur said in an email. And in the meantime, voter data and surveys are being used for program improvement, as necessary.
As for security protocols, “we follow all federal and state regulations and Dominion guides for best practices,” Tuteur wrote.
