Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed Thomas Boon to lead IT operations for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Division of Enterprise Information Services as its director.

He replaces Edmond Blagdon, who stepped down from the role at the end of February.

Boon most recently served as the CIO for the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), where he has worked since September 2013.

Before joining GO-Biz, Boon held several technical positions with CDCR, including software engineer and senior programmer analyst, and served as an associate programmer analyst with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

CDCR has big ambitions when it comes to working with data, and much modernization and digitization work on its plate.

Boon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from the University of San Diego. This position is subject to Senate confirmation.
