Sacramento County’s Department of Technology has released information about its Voice over Internet Protocol telephone system upgrade.
The $1.2 million project will update desk phones, voicemail, 911 location capabilities and call centers. The call centers will include voice response systems and call recording capabilities.
Sacramento has discussed replacing the phones for several years. The money will be spent during the 2017-18 fiscal year, with project completion expected in 2019.
The annual cost to maintain the phones is not expected to be any more than the old phones.
“This type of upgrade is both cyclical and predictable and will be accomplished within the current telephone rate structure,” the department’s fiscal plan reads.
The funding will come from the Department of Technology’s telephone fees budget.
