The San Diego Police Department has been working to replace its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.

An increase in the cost was approved in Tuesday’s City Council meeting, bringing the total cost up to $571,422 for installation and a first-year warranty.

The city originally approved $786,700 for maintenance in fiscal year 2019, $794,800 in fiscal year 2020, and $803,100 in fiscal year 2021.

The city estimated in 2013 that it would cost $8 million to replace the 25-year-old system. The new system should allow interoperability among fire rescue, public utilities and environmental services.
