The San Diego Sheriff’s Office has announced the overhaul of its legacy computer-aided dispatch system, launching platforms from public safety technology firm Mark43.

The office’s legacy CAD system had been in place for more than 25 years and could no longer effectively support the more than 3,200 sworn deputies, dispatchers and other staff who relied on it, officials said in a press release.

The new CAD system will enable real-time unit locations, modern mapping capabilities and visual layers to support law enforcement operations throughout the county.

“Our approach to technology starts with solving operational challenges. Mark43 gives us a platform that can evolve with our needs, improve efficiency, strengthen officer safety and better serve San Diego County,” SDSO Chief Technology Officer Ashish Kakkad said in the release.

In addition to the Mark43 CAD platform, deputies have expanded access and capabilities in the field through the Mark43 First Responder, OnScene platform, which connects via their smartphones.
