The event, presented by Government Technology*, begins at 11 a.m. June 13. Tawfik will speak with Phil Bertolini, senior vice president of events for e.Republic. Tawfik and Bertolini will discuss the city’s approach to pioneering new technologies, including AI. This event will be of interest to technology vendors who work or seek to work with the public sector.

“This lightning round discussion will explore the crucial role technology plays in bridging the digital divide, including policies and strategies for using AI to streamline operations, improve decision-making and deliver more efficient and accessible services to citizens,” the event announcement says. Tawfik “will also identify opportunities for vendors to partner with the city to help prioritize equity, accessibility and citizen-centric service delivery.”

San Jose is an award-winning city that has positioned itself at the forefront of technological innovation under Tawfik and his predecessor, former CIO and deputy city managerRob Lloyd, who announced late last month that he’s taken the chief technology officer role in Seattle.

Tawfik was featured in an Industry Insider — California One-on-One interview in April 2022, shortly after he succeeded Lloyd as CIO. Tawfik has a deep background as a technology executive in the public and private sectors. He took the CIO position in San Jose after serving as CIO of Irvine; before that, he was chief of IT for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works for nearly 16 years. Khaled has a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine, and a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from St. Mary’s University in Texas.

Bertolini, who also has a deep background in government technology, has a keen understanding of the needs of government IT leaders.

Registration for the webinar is available online.
