Santa Clara County is recruiting an associate chief information officer to help guide countywide IT strategy, shared services and technology operations across one of California’s largest local governments.

The position will work closely with the county’s CIO and may act on that official’s behalf when needed. The county describes the role as part of a broader effort to strengthen enterprise technology capabilities across an organization with more than 23,000 employees and more than 30 departments.

The associate CIO will help lead shared IT operations in a federated technology environment that supports health, social services, public safety, housing, transportation, emergency response, justice partners and core government functions. Responsibilities include oversight of enterprise technology strategy, infrastructure, cloud services, engineering, operations, service delivery, policy management, budgeting and vendor strategy.

The county is seeking a leader who can improve efficiency, reliability and customer satisfaction while helping set countywide standards, policies, processes and governance practices. The posting also identifies data, cloud services, cybersecurity, digital platforms and other technology solutions as areas of focus as the county works to modernize services.

In the first six to 12 months, the county expects the new hire to strengthen operational alignment across IT functions, improve communication with departments and stakeholders and establish performance measures and modernization priorities. Longer term, the associate CIO will be expected to optimize IT operations, improve user satisfaction and strengthen IT reliability and value across the enterprise.

The salary for this position is $299,877-364,506, and the posting closes July 27.
