Bonaguro, an award-winning technologist with a background in the private and public sectors, was named California’s chief data officer (CDO) in January 2020 by Gov. Gavin Newsom. By October of that year, she rolled out the state’s first data strategy.
The members-only briefing will run from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. June 3 and will be moderated by Alan Cox, executive vice president of Techwire parent e.Republic. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to ask questions. Registration information and more information are available online.
Before her appointment to the CDO role, Bonaguro had been head of systems and data for Corelight Inc. since 2018. While with the cybersecurity startup, she was responsible for scaling internal systems, data and information security.
Bonaguro joined Corelight after serving as San Francisco’s chief data officer – the city/county’s first – from 2014 to 2018. In that role, Bonaguro was part of Team San Francisco, which was recognized in 2016 by Government Technology magazine* as among the year’s Top 25 Doers, Dreamers & Drivers. As Government Technology wrote of her tenure in San Francisco: “Significant work under Bonaguro’s leadership included a partnership with the controller’s office that yielded a data academy that trained more than 1,000 internal staff members; a DataScienceSF intervention program that sees civic data scientists helping departments function more efficiently with information; and shaping the current DataSF team that will continue the work and culture that she helped to establish.”
Before her service in San Francisco, Bonaguro had been IT manager for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2011 to 2014, and information designer for the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center from 2002 to 2009.
Bonaguro earned her master’s degree from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley and her bachelor’s in mathematics and philosophy from Tulane University.
