The Secretary of State’s Office (SOS) is seeking a chief information security officer (IT Manager II) to “head the Information Security Section and to responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive information security program that includes policies, standards, procedures and guidelines to protect the organization’s information assets.”
“The CISO will be the single point of contact for all security-related matters, security reporting, and executive summaries to the Secretary of State,” the job posting says. “The CISO works collaboratively with other divisions within the SOS, and external partners, such as MS-ISAC, CDT, CAL OES, CISA, and California counties, to ensure the organization’s information assets’ confidentiality, integrity, and availability.”
Responsibilities of the role, according to the posting and duty statement, include:
- Develop and implement an organization-wide information security strategy aligned with business objectives and industry best practices.
- Ensure the organization’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry standards related to information security and privacy.
- Establish and maintain security incident response and disaster recovery plans to ensure the organization’s ability to respond to and recover from security incidents.
Desirable qualifications for the role include:
- Two years of progressive security lead roles such as information security officer or CISO.
- Administrative experience managing budgets and IT contract and procurement management.
- Experience with the software development life cycle and cloud technologies.
- Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control® (CRISC), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is seeking an operations manager (IT Manager I) to oversee CALNET (the California Network and Telecommunications Program), which is focused on “providing services that meet the state’s complex and critical telecommunications and network business needs” through oversight, statewide policy and “a suite of statewide, competitively bid telecommunications contracts used by both state and local agencies.”
The manager “develops plans, organizes work activities, and ensures alignment of work assignments with the responsibilities of CALNET Operations and individuals within the program,” the job posting says. “The incumbent ensures that multiple work streams operate cohesively and that multiple projects and day-to-day tasks are completed according to the priorities and core business functions of the CALNET Program.”
Additional duties, according to the posting, include overseeing CALNET Operations staff responsible for onboarding and transitioning contractors off expiring and onto new statewide contracts; interacting with CDT executives, other management, staff, customers and contractors at all levels; and managing CALNET Help, managing the CALNET program budget, cost recovery, resource planning and processing; and validating customer registration and contract documents.
Applicants should have the following skills and abilities:
- Develop and execute tactical plans while maintaining a clear understanding of the larger strategic vision and direction for the CALNET Program.
- Possess excellent planning, communication, and human resource management skills.
- Improve CALNET operations using Lean principles and/or other organizational change management methodologies.
