State Launches Third Engaged California Conversation on AI

The Engaged California platform is once again gathering input; this time, the conversation centers on AI policy and the technology’s impacts on the economy and residents.

Engaged California, the state’s digital conversation platform, is being opened up once again, this time to collect input on AI policy and how the technology is impacting residents’ livelihoods and the broader economy.

The platform is run by the state’s Office of Data and Innovation (ODI), part of the Government Operations Agency (GovOps).

The first two Engaged California pilots focused on L.A. wildfire recovery and giving state workers a chance to share their perspectives on efficiency and effectiveness. Those initial conversations resulted in 19 recommendations for wildfire recovery and more than 2,500 ideas from 1,450 state workers about how to improve state processes.

This time, the conversation will center on AI impacts in two stages. The first stage will include a public input phase, in which residents can sign up to offer their thoughts on the technology, and then a secondary phase, in which a smaller group will be tapped for live forums focused on generating policy recommendations.

“The more Californians are engaged in the democratic process, the better able we’ll be to confront the challenges we face together. Engaged California is about using new avenues and tools to listen to Californians from across the state on issues that impact all of us,” GovOps Secretary Nick Maduros said in an announcement.
