The California State Lottery is recruiting for a Data, Information and Analytics Services (DIAS) manager – an IT Manager I-level position over its Data, Information and Analytics Services area.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the IT Manager II and manage the Lottery’s “business intelligence applications and systems” within its IT Services Division (ITSD) DIAS unit. Job duties mainly center on the IT project management, business technology management and the software engineering domains. The business intelligence manager must have “an understanding of non-primary domains such as client services and information security engineering,” according to the job posting released Wednesday.
Job duties include coordinating, proposing, developing and driving the “strategic direction and tactical execution of business intelligence and analytical services capabilities” to follow the Lottery’s business strategy; managing, organizing and prioritizing the work of data engineers, data analysts and IT supervisors to meet information and data needs; forging “collaborative working relationships” with business stakeholders, and customers, subject matter experts and vendors within and outside the organization. The person hired will also be charged with managing and coordinating development and delivery of “complex data analysis services” with customers, project staff, technical experts and stakeholders; identifying and analyzing new data analytics tools, services and platforms to determine their suitability; monitoring service levels and performance management standards to enhance the availability and quality of business data; and directing “the most complex business intelligence and analytics services efforts” and overseeing vendor selection and management.
Essential duties include:
- Business intelligence team management (40 percent): developing, directing and influencing Lottery business strategies, frameworks and standards to ensure accurate delivery of information assets; setting goals and objectives to meet the entity’s mission, including advancing the use of data assets to support “business and operational decision-making.”
- Staff management and guidance (35 percent): communicating complex technical concepts across the enterprise, forging relationships with customers, peers, program managers and users, offering guidance to ensure compliance on strategic goals and objectives; overseeing administration of Lottery BI environment and staff, and ensuring development and enforcement of standards for metadata/master data management.
- Leadership and staff development (20 percent): building and sustaining a “high-performing BI team,” ensuring staffers get baseline training on current and new technologies; obtaining resources to meet and augment demands and overseeing the administration of the Lottery BI environment while working with support teams to ensure data integration and analytics services are “operational and effective.” More information on the role may be found in the duty statement.
The position has a monthly salary range of $8,381 to $11,231, and the application deadline is May 18.
