The California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) has a new chief information officer in Rod Wallin, a technologist with a lengthy private-sector resume. He started in the new role May 20.
Wallin most recently served as the vice president of sales and marketing for San Diego-based ProTelesis. Before that, he was the vice president of sales and operations for Clinical Mobility Inc., the senior director of sales operations and professional services for Blackhawk Network, and the senior director of service delivery and PMO for Endowance Solutions, among other positions.
Wallin is “a passionate outdoor enthusiast who deeply values and appreciates the remarkable benefits that outdoor access can offer to one’s physical, mental, and emotional health,” a spokesperson for the agency said in an email.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and corrections from California State University, Sacramento, and a Master of Business Administration in technology management from the University of Phoenix.
State Parks is responsible for “280 state park units, over 340 miles of coastline, 970 miles of lake and river frontage, 15,000 campsites, 5,200 miles of trails, 3,195 historic buildings and more than 11,000 known prehistoric and historic archaeological sites,” according to the agency’s website.
