The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services is hiring for a Career Executive Appointment position that will serve as a technical authority and leader on the state's strategic direction for 911 and next-gen emergency communications.

The position will "oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative strategies to build a successful statewide 911 infrastructure including transitioning California Next Generation 911 (NG 911). The position also will "evaluate and apply new NG 911 technology, direct and manage a 911 governance framework, technical system architecture, network security considerations, and statewide operational procedures."

The position is the point of contact for Cal OES state-level coordination. The job is open until filled.

Karen Wong, director of the Cal OES Office of Public Safety Communications, retired at the end of January. In her role, Wong was the point of contact for the FirstNet nationwide public safety communications network project.
