Following user experience complaints, the state appropriated $300,000 in 2018-19 to redesign the dashboard. Collaborative Communications was paid part of that funding to recreate a simpler dashboard, sharing prototypes with stakeholders as early as July.
The system reports data at a school, district or state level, including test scores and graduation rates through 2018. It is also fully accessible on mobile devices.
The system is built out on Angular. A revised version, focused on completing indicators for local education agencies, will be rolled out in 2019. The Spanish version of the site will be fully implemented by January.
The dashboard is a direct result of the state’s 2013 shift to Common Core standards and the use of the Local Control Funding Formula. The funding formula sent more money to districts that were considered higher-need and required all districts to provide results after gaining more control over how budgets were spent. In turn, the new standards required new assessments and a new way to present that information.
The original indicator dashboard, launched in 2017, included two state indicators and six local indicators, rated on a five-color scale. The scale was displayed in a five-by-five table, which compared data across multiple years, marking improvements or decreases.
