State government, the city of Sacramento and Los Angeles County government are looking to fill significant IT positions.
Los Angeles County government is considered one of Forbes' "Best Large Employers in America" for 2018. The Public Health Department needs a deputy CIO. The department has a budget of about $1 billion annually and over 4,000 employees across the county. The Probation Department is also looking for a deputy CIO.
Both positions manage their department's information systems and coordinate with other departments and agencies. The deputy CIOs develop road maps and strategic plans for their departments. Procurement and expenditures are also under the deputy CIOs' purview.
The salary range for both positions is $125,321 to $189,684. Benefits for the positions include 401(k) contributions, paid holidays and flexible schedules.
The city of Sacramento is recruiting for a principal systems engineer "to implement server architecture that involves multiple platforms, vendor products and technologies." This is essentially a project manager's role for one who has "the highest level of technical expertise and knowledge in performing network design, administration and tuning, mainframe operating systems programming and cross-platform system security." The salary for this position ranges from $85,421 to $112,080, and the application deadline is July 23.
The city is also seeking a senior applications developer who can perform "a variety of professional, technical, and analytical duties involving requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, administration and support of new and existing small- and large-scale systems and databases in a multi-platform environment that includes mainframe, client server, distributed and Web-based systems." The position has a salary range of $81,638 to $107,116, and the application deadline is July 7.
Another developer position that the city is seeking to fill is for a senior app developer/Web administrator, which carries similar responsibilities and the same salary range. Application deadline is July 27.
The California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) is seeking to fill an IT Specialist I/security analyst position, which will function as the Web application security penetration engineer "on a team comprised of security analysts and engineers performing a wide array of complex security-related tasks." The requirements for the position are posted on CalCareers, and the job has a salary range that tops out at $95,544. Application deadline is July 3.
