California's new fiscal year begins on July 1 and it is expected to have a record $200 billion budget.
The state Legislature was tasked with sending the proposed budget to Gov. Jerry Brown by June 15. The bill, known in the Assembly and House as AB 1806 and SB 839, is expected to be signed by Brown before June 30.
While a large portion of the budget could go toward Rainy Day Fund savings, $530 million more could go toward IT across state departments. Some of the spending is expected in higher-education technology, from the Cannabis Control Fund and for Justice Department programs.
In addition, $134 million is expected to be spent at the county level on voting equipment. And $99.6 million is proposed for Fi$Cal, the state's budgeting and expenditure platform.
