The nine-week program will run from Aug. 3 through Sept. 30. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on May 27, and applicants must include authorization from their chief information officer to be considered.
“Participants will be able to attend all or the majority of the academy virtually,” said Brenda Bridges Cruz, deputy director for the California Department of Technology’s (CDT) Office of Professional Development, who oversees multiple academies. “This enables us to extend training opportunities to public-sector personnel across the state.”
The academy, which has been updated with new courses, includes preparation and an exam voucher for the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification. More information is available online.
“Providing high-quality training for our information security workforce has been a top priority for our state’s leaders,” Bridges Cruz said. “We’ve put together a great program that fills this critical need and helps ensure we remain nimble as a security workforce.”
Academy applicants are chosen from state, county and city agencies and departments that work in information security.
“Ideal candidates are individuals with a vision for enterprisewide thinking, strong potential for career advancement into executive or senior management positions, or aspiring information security officers (ISOs) and agency information security officers (AISOs) with experience carrying out their organization’s mission and vision,” said a news release from CDT.
