Tax and Fee Department Seeks Operations Branch Manager

Candidates should have expertise in managing large-scale IT asset management systems and configuration management databases and an understanding of IT Service Management principles and practices.

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is recruiting for an IT Operations Branch manager to contribute to policy development, oversee technical implementation and ensure ongoing maintenance and support for its IT operations.

The branch manager (IT Manager II) “ensures the IT Operations teams deliver high-quality services aligned with CDTFA's business needs through effective use of technology and a strong focus on customer service,” the job posting says. “Additionally, the incumbent represents the CDTFA on various departmental, statewide and federal policy committees, advising executive management on policies and issues that affect CDTFA’s IT priorities and the integration of technology with business processes.”

Tax programs administered by CDTFA are concentrated in two general areas — sales and use taxes, and special taxes and fees. Desirable qualifications for this position include:
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale technology operations serving both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled in anticipating and resolving complex issues by developing comprehensive policies and integrated strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership in engaging, inspiring, empowering, and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Expertise in managing large-scale IT asset management systems and configuration management databases.
  • Deep understanding of IT Service Management principles and practices, with strong knowledge of ITIL frameworks.
