Techwire.net friend and colleague John Thomas Flynn announced he is running for the 8th Assembly District in Sacramento. Well known in the state technology community, John was California’s first State CIO, appointed by Governor Pete Wilson. He is also the host of Techleader.TV, a public affairs talk show featuring technology leaders working in state government. If elected, California will have a new technology champion in the State Capitol. John provided this statement today:
“In the legislature, I will be the champion of a new era of government technological innovation, applying sophisticated, yet proven technology solutions from California and the nation’s technology companies to save billions. A model is perhaps the Franchise Tax Board’s new Enterprise Data to Revenue project to capture the more than $10 billion per year that goes unpaid; similar data analytics could prevent the 10-20% fraud in the state’s $50 billion Medi-Cal program where less than 1% is now recovered and where program administrators blindly claim that’s all there is.
“Plus we need a thorough analysis and prioritization of the state’s $6 billion IT project portfolio to weed out projects without clear, significant cost reduction and demonstrable return on invest.”
