Tracking the Spend: Caltrans’ Top Buys of IT Goods, Services in 2024

The California Department of Transportation spent $12.1 million on its five largest buys of IT goods in 2024. During the same period, its five largest purchases of IT services totaled just under $23 million.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) spent just more than $12 million on its five largest purchases of IT goods last year, including telematics, servers, communications gear and apps.

Caltrans is one of more than a dozen departments, boards and commissions that are part of the California Transportation Commission.

According to the State Contract and Procurement Registration System, Caltrans’ five largest buys from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 totaled $12,117,648. Those buys included:
  • $3.1 million for Geotab telematics devices and associated hardware, purchased June 20 from Geotab USA under a statewide contract
  • $2.8 million for communications-related equipment in a Jan. 12 statewide contract with Motorola Solutions Inc.
  • $2.3 million for XTREME APP, a geo-mapping and geo-tagging tool, in an Oct. 30 contract with Visionary Integration Professionals awarded under the Software Licensing Program (SLP)
  • $2 million for HP computers in a Feb. 12 statewide contract with NWN Solutions Corp.
  • $1.9 million for a one-year VMware Cloud Foundation subscription purchased June 6 through the SLP from Enterprise Networking Solutions Inc.
Also during 2024, Caltrans spent $22,985,612 on its five largest contracts for IT services. Those contracts were for:
  • $5 million for GIS support and consulting services, in a June 30 contract with SymSoft Solutions LLC that runs through June 29, 2027
  • $4.9 million for business intelligence data warehousing services in a three-year contract with Delegata Corp. that runs through June 29, 2027
  • $4.8 million to expand and enhance critical enterprise infrastructure in a three-year contract with Acuity Technical Solutions LLC that runs through June 29, 2027
  • $4.7 million for ADSD transformation in a contract that runs from June 1, 2024, through April 30, 2026, with Visionary Integration Professionals
  • $3.6 million for Advantage Standard Maintenance support for one year that ended Dec. 31, with CGI Technologies and Solutions Inc.
