The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) spent exactly $7,574,878.51 on its four most expensive such buys, all contracts — somewhat low numbers overall but reflecting a rise in value from five such purchases from Nov. 1-Nov. 30, 2022, at a cost of $5,689,916.25. During November 2022, in a year-over-year comparison, DMV’s five IT services buys included $4 million for a two-year contract with Taborda Solutions for its mobile driver’s license initiative. With rounding, here are DMV’s five costliest purchases of IT services in September, based on data in the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System:
- $4.9 million to Relx for Instant Verify, likely for instant ID verification technology. This is a nearly two-year contract, from Nov. 1-Aug. 31, 2025.
- $2.5 million to Infinite Solutions for consulting and planning on DMV’s Digital eXperience Platform (DxP), its ongoing, large-scale modernization effort. This is a one-year agreement, from Nov. 21-Nov. 20, 2024.
- $217,000 to Fairfax Imaging for IBML image track license fees — likely for the latter company’s high-volume intelligent capture automation technology. This is a two-year contract, from Nov. 1-Oct. 31, 2025.
- Zero dollars to Xtreet for digital license plates. The company is a DMV partner and, per its website, can assist newcomers to California or those who have just bought a vehicle in the state in registering vehicles, renewing a registration or transferring a title. Here, DMV entered into a two-year pact with Xtreet, from Nov. 27-Nov. 26, 2025.
