Tracking the Spend: Tech Department’s IT Goods Purchases in November

The department’s five largest transactions in this area last month nearly reached the mid-eight figures.

The state’s technology department made 31 purchases of IT goods in November and spent more than $30 million on the top five.

The California Department of Technology spent exactly $34,391,070.23 on its five most expensive such buys. Here, with rounding, is what that money paid for, based on data in the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System:

  • $14.2 million to Crayon Software Experts LLC, most likely for Microsoft Office 365 government community cloud E5 application suites for all language, through Microsoft Volume Licensing. This is a more than three-year contract, from Nov. 1-March 31, 2026.
  • $7.7 million to Direct Systems Support for “Gold Camp hardware,” IBM’s LinuxOne Emperor 4 platform, most likely for use at CDT’s Rancho Cordova location which includes a data center. This is a three-year contract from Nov. 15-Nov. 14, 2025.
