The Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) has awarded a cybersecurity contract for $1.85 million over three years to Mosaic451, for which operating funds will be used.
TJPA is a group of transportation entities, including Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District, the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrans and the California High Speed Rail Authority, overseeing the creation of a Salesforce Transit Center in San Francisco that would centralize public commutes all the way to Los Angeles.
"Salesforce Transit Center is a regional transportation hub. SFMTA, AC Transit, Greyhound, Amtrak, and other bus operators will operate from the transit center when it opens later this year," city spokeswoman Christine Falvey said in an email to Techwire. "Caltrain and California High Speed Rail (CHSR) will operate from the transit center after completion of Phase 2 of the Transbay Program. The TJPA coordinates closely with all its regional transportation partners, including BART."
Since TJPA extends across multiple regions, the contract is responsible for all IT and operational technology across the multiple components and buildings involved in the project.
"The TJPA entered into a naming-rights agreement with Salesforce, and therefore the center is named Salesforce Transit Center,” Falvey wrote.
The transit center and its associated components will use automated systems for building management, control and communications, potentially putting it and its networks at risk.
"Securing these systems against security threats, including cyberattacks, is critical to the TJPA’s mission to ensure a safe and secure transit center for the thousands of daily commuters, visitors, community or neighborhood residents and employees who will use the facility," Falvey wrote.
