Californians who go online for services and information from the DMV might notice an updated look and feel: This week California Department of Motor Vehicles released another iteration in the rollout of the department's new website. One of the biggest changes is that the layout and presentation of dmv.ca.gov now automatically adapts to the user’s device for desktops, smartphones and tablets.
“We are always looking for ways to improve the customer experience, and this updated website is another example of our commitment to meeting this goal,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto in a press release. “We know our customers have busy lives, and this re-engineered website will allow them full access while on the go.”
The website has been undergoing gradual changes since December 2015. According to the DMV, vehicle registration renewal, license renewal and notice of release of liability are three of the most popular Web transactions. Last year more than 15.6 million online transactions were made through the site. An average of 220,000 visitors log into www.dmv.ca.gov every day.
The redesign was done in-house by DMV employees and has new features meant to catch the eye: A “Trending” section highlights influential policies and important topics. Visitors can also search by ZIP code to find the nearest office and access social media links for the department.
