After a career spanning policy, academia and the federal government, Ayushi Roy joined the California Department of Technology as the state’s chief technology officer in August, replacing Jonathan Porat.
More than that, she’s worked with CIOs in some 20 states.
She comes during a time of transition — not only is the state grappling with emerging technology such as AI and quantum computing, as all states are, but California is also preparing to elect a new governor in a month.
Industry Insider — California had a chance to interview Roy at the National Association of State CIOs Annual Conference recently in San Diego. In addition to her background, we spoke about digital ID, Poppy and workforce disruption.
She said the two biggest challenges she’s focused on are serving agency customers and dealing with deficits — both technical and financial.
