We Read, You Read, CIOs Read

Who's reading what at the C-suite level?

Subject matter experts often read in their personal time to keep up with the industry. Techwire has begun to ask them what they read in an effort to keep ahead of the learning curve. We also peruse a variety of content in an effort to keep our readers up to date. But sometimes leaders just really like reading about their hobbies. Here is a sample reading list of both.

What tech leaders are reading:

Russ Nichols, CIO of the Year in 2017-18, was reading two books at once after winning his award. He'd finished the Hamilton biography and had moved on to the Federalist Papers and Switch. He didn't say which Switch it was, but this seems to be a likely candidate.

Carlos Ramos, CIO Hall of Famer, told Techwire he enjoys historical fiction and was preparing for a trip to Europe. At the crossroads of that was The Winds of War.

Lori Ajax had just finished supervising the cannabis licensing system rollout when she told Techwire she was reading The Girl on the Train, a book on baseball stadiums and the cannabis regulations.

What we've been reading:

Cybersecurity is a challenge at all levels, but local governments have to serve residents while having fewer resources than states or the federal government. Here's how difficult that can be.

Some smaller jurisdictions are considering cybersecurity expertise as an on-demand service.

A San Francisco software startup that links hardware developers with parts manufacturers in China has raised $15 million in a round led by a China-based investment firm as well as investments from Bill Gates and Intel.
