In order to help prepare Californians for the wintry and wet forecast ahead, the state of California and its Department of Technology have jointly launched a new online resource where people can check for warnings during floods, mudslides and other natural disasters.

California Storm Ready can be found at http://storms.ca.gov/. It has information on how to follow several national and state disaster and weather departments on Twitter, including the National Weather Service (@NWS), the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (@Cal_OES) and California Highway Patrol (@CHP_HQ), among others. The website was drawn up in less than a month’s time with help from the Office of the State Geographic Information Officer.

The new site also has available several helpful fact sheets about winter preparedness, such as information on the impact of large winter storms and El Niño, readiness for coastal flooding, and flood protection investments. Timely weather articles aggregated from California newspapers appear as the user scrolls through the front page.

According to a press release from the Department of Technology, Climatechange.Ca.Gov also was recently updated “using the new official state website template for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.”

Both websites have plans to update their content on a regular basis so the information displayed is always current, and both are available on mobile platforms.
