Winters, Calif., Mayor, Alameda County Named 2015 State Fair Champions of Technology Award Winners

The second-annual awards program recognizes "California technology leaders who have demonstrated outstanding technology contributions to enhance the lives of Californians."

Winters, Calif., Mayor Cecilia Aguiar-Curry and Alameda County are the recipients of the 2015 Champions of Technology Awards, the California State Fair announced this week.

The second-annual awards program recognizes "California technology leaders who have demonstrated outstanding technology contributions to enhance the lives of Californians."

"We were pleased to see the diversity of the nominations, and the breadth of innovators nominated by their peers," California Department of Technology Director and state CIO Carlos Ramos said in a statement. "It was a challenge to select only two victors. The candidates were of the highest caliber and truly have my admiration for the work they have accomplished on behalf of Californians."

In the Individual Award category, Aguiar-Curry was recognized for leading an effort to bring affordable high-speed Internet, classroom computers and digital literacy initiatives to Winters and the surrounding community when the region’s economy was struggling. Developing the Yolo County Broadband Strategic Plan was part of the initiative.

Aguiar-Curry serves on the board for the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, is chairwoman of the Yolo County Housing Commission, and vice chairwoman of the Yolo County Water Association.

Alameda County is being recognized in the Organization award category. The judges noted that the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, the county administrator and county chief information officer are working together to provide award-winning mobile and Web apps, e-government services, open data and other digital tools.

The two award winners will be recognized at the annual Friends of the California State Fair Gala on June 25.
