Patrick Perry will start on May 2 as the CIO of the California State University system, the Chancellor's Office announced Monday.
Perry formerly served 13 years as the vice chancellor of Technology, Research and Information Systems for the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. He most recently was a senior research associate for WestEd, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and development, and service agency working in education.
Duties of the CIO include developing IT strategy supporting the university system's 23 campuses, 70,000 students and 47,000 employees; designing scalable and sharable solutions; and continuing system-level initiatives such as accessible technology, common management systems, identity and access management, and information security management.
Perry will oversee a $76 million operating budget and a staff of more than 300, the Chancellor's Office said.
"Given the size and scope of the CSU system, there are tremendous opportunities for shared services and economies of scale," said a 2015 audit of CSU's technology management.
CSU consolidated its financial management processes and systems within its PeopleSoft Financial Management system in 2012 and the university is now working toward consolidating human resources functions. Two months ago CSU issued an RFP seeking an enterprise learning platform and services that could be utilized by all campuses.
The CSU Chancellor's Office is based in Long Beach.
