City of Sacramento Launches Building Permit Tracker

The system, built on the Civic Insight platform, uses data updated nightly from the city’s internal land management system. Civic Insight was founded by Code for America alumni and its product is used by localities such as Monterey County, Palo Alto and New Orleans.

Sacramentans and the public now have access to an enhanced portal for finding and following the status of building and construction permits, the city announced on its blog Wednesday.

The Web page is called PermitTracker. View it here.

The city of Sacramento lists the system’s features:

  • Track building permit activity and view the history of a specific property or area of the city.
  • Track a building application and permit through the approval process.
  • Sign up for auto notification via email when building permit activity occurs at a specified property.
  • Find out citywide or neighborhood specific trends through simple maps, graphs and visualizations.
  • Better understand the building and permitting process.
