The California Department of Technology's Statewide Technology Procurement Division this week released an Invitation for Bid for a new category within the CALNET 3 contract vehicle. The solicitation will select vendors for Category 14:  Satellite Based High Speed Internet and Terrestrial Based High Speed Internet.

CALNET 3 is the state’s multibillion-dollar telecommunication procurement providing an array of products and services from pre-qualified vendors to state and local departments and agencies. The first CALNET 3 contracts were awarded in 2013.

A pre-solicitation last fall described California's current needs:

"Various State agencies have contracted for best effort high speed internet services for their own use. Category 14 broadband internet services being bid in this IFB are similar to, but are not identical to, those presently contracted by these agencies. The State of California currently has over one thousand broadband internet connections, at multiple state agencies. Additional agencies and connections are likely to be added in the future, including e-rate eligible customers."

Here's a look at key action dates.
