The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) announced Wednesday it has issued an Intent to Award for a competitive procurement seeking a contractor to identify deceased CalPERS members who have not yet been reported to the retirement system.
The Berwyn Group Inc. of Beachwood, Ohio, is the selected vendor. The company says it specializes in mortality verification (death audits) and new address determination for pension fund and 401(k) administrators, insurance companies, banks, unions, public and municipal employee retirement systems, credit card companies, and other institutions.
Under the agreement, CalPERS says the company "will compare records in the CalPERS data files to the contractor’s multi-source vital statistics database and other screening methods at their disposal," the bid document says.
The contractor will perform the data check on approximately 600,000 records of CalPERS payees and thousands of other similar records.
CalPERS says it's also interested in other optional services, including continuous monitoring, obituary searches and online searches.
