Oracle Acquires DNS Solution Provider Dyn

Through the acquisition, Oracle says it will be able to provide enterprise customers with a "one-stop-shop" for Infrastructure- and Platform-as-a-Service.

Oracle announced Monday that it has acquired cloud-based Internet performance and DNS solution provider Dyn.

As a result of the acquisition, Oracle said it will be able to provide a single source for Infrastructure- and Platform-as-a-Service. In turn, the addition of Dyn’s solution will help enterprise customers optimize costs, maximize website-driven revenue and manage risks.

“Oracle already offers enterprise-class IaaS and PaaS for companies building and running Internet applications and cloud services,” said Thomas Kurian, Oracle’s president of Product Development in a news release. “Dyn’s immensely scalable and global DNS is a critical core component and a natural extension to our cloud computing platform."

Powered by a global network, Dyn’s solution is used by more than 3,500 enterprise customers, such as Netflix, Twitter and CNBC.

While details on the acquisition have not been disclosed, the deal comes during an eventful year for Manchester, N.H.-based Dyn. In early October, the company appointed new CEO, Colin Doherty, followed by one of the largest denial-of-service attacks ever recorded later that month.

Dyn employs more than 400 people, approximately 330 of which are located at the company’s Manchester office. In an article by the New Hampshire Union Leader, Kyle York, chief strategy officer for Dyn, said he expects the company’s current location will remain “open, running and growing.”
