A Carmichael information technology consultant with a coveted Defense Department contract has been sold to an IT company based in Maryland.
FutureWorld Technologies Inc. of Carmichael was sold to Blackwatch International of Rockwell, Md. Jim Dramby, Blackwatch’s president and chief executive, said Monday the Carmichael operation and its jobs will remain in place.
“Nothing is changing; we’re bringing them onboard,” he said.
FutureWorld, founded in 1998, provides IT services to various state and federal agencies in the Sacramento area. Although it’s little known in the region, it holds a marquee contract with a high-tech military lab at McClellan Park, Defense Microelectronics Activity.
The lab designs and tests microprocessors and other products for the Pentagon. It is one of the few government functions that survived the 2001 closure of McClellan Air Force Base.
Dramby said the Defense Microelectronics Activity contract made FutureWorld an attractive acquisition. Terms of the sale weren’t disclosed.
