The Sacramento City Council will be asked Tuesday to approve a contract extension with LexisNexis that provides two crime analysts and analytics software to the city.

The Sacramento City Council will be asked Tuesday to approve a contract extension with LexisNexis that provides two crime analysts and analytics software to the city.

The crime analysts help share crime data and statistical information regionally and within the city of Sacramento, according to a city staff report. A grant from the State of California is helping fund the effort.

"One of the analysts is responsible for coordinating a regional crime information sharing program designed to share crime data across jurisdictions in order to analyze trends, build crime pattern predictions, and execute regional response strategies. ... The other analyst is responsible for conducting crime analysis services specific to the City of Sacramento."

LexisNexis also provides a custom solution to the Sacramento City Attorney and District Attorney.

Sacramento provides open data on citywide crime statistics on its website portal.
