Johan Chung, a former senior vice president at LG Electronics, has been named Sprint’s president of the Northern California and Nevada region. The appointment comes after Sprint’s restructuring of the company into four geographic areas — West, Central, Northeast and South — with targeted resources devoted to 17 top regions, including San Francisco.
According to a press release from the company, Chun previously managed LG Electronic’s account division for major U.S. operators, and once held management positions at Hewlett Packard/Agilent Technologies.
Sprint’s West area covers Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, western Texas and Wyoming. It covers nearly 1,170 company-owned or Sprint-branded retail stores. Chung will be based in San Francisco and will be responsible for sales strategy, network oversight, customer service, marketing communications and general operations in Northern California and Nevada.
“Northern California and Nevada are technology-hungry markets that are hosts to numerous technology conference,” said CEO Marcelo Claure. “With Johan at the helm, we have a huge potential to attract even more customers in this area of the country. Johan is adept at working in the fast-paced technology industry, and I’m confident that he and his team will be ready to help Sprint innovate and continue to build a strong wireless company.”
Chung said that he looks “forward to helping the company grow its voice and business in Northern California and Nevada and to the opportunity to lead the region into its next chapter of expansion and success.”
