Tech Industry Advocate Henton Retires; ITIC Adds Staff Members

Longtime tech industry advocate Carol Henton, an influential voice at the California State Capitol on policy, legislation and other IT matters, is retiring at the end of the month from her position as vice president of state, local and education for the Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC).

Henton is the lead of ITIC's state and local program under its IT Alliance for Public Sector (ITAPS) division. She previously was vice president of state and local government for TechAmerica and the Information Technology Association of America.

"After 15 years of doing technology trade associations, and a lot of activity here in Sacramento, it feels like the right time," Henton said earlier this month.

Trey Hodgkins, senior vice president of public sector for ITIC, said Henton will leave big shoes to fill.

"Carol has been an indefatigable team member, effectively advocating for the interests of IT companies in state capitals around the country. Her leadership and engagement in our success will be missed," Hodgkins wrote in an email to the association's members this week.

With Henton's departure, ITIC has added two new staff members and plans further expansion to its state and local government practice.

Jordan Kroll, formerly of Stateside Associates, will manage legislative tracking activities and coordinate state advocacy during the legislative sessions. Kroll also will focus on IT acquisition reform.

Liam Crawford, who previously worked for the National Governors Association and TechAmerica's government affairs team, will lead new efforts on state cybersecurity, continue work on education technology, coordinate business development activities and initiate proactive advocacy efforts toward the state and local elected and stakeholder communities.
