Commission Seeks Vendor to Operate Remote Pharmacy

The contractor will be expected to provide multiple services for pharmacists and patients.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking requests for proposals to establish contract(s) for remote pharmacy services at the El Paso Psychiatric Center (EPPC).

The commission will establish remote pharmacy services at EPPC, and the contractor will provide the multiple services, beginning with a review of medication orders and coverage. A remote pharmacist will evaluate and verify orders so that they interface and cross over to Pyxis and the electronic Medication Administration Record (MediMAR), allowing the nurses to electronically retrieve medications from Pyxis and document that on the administration record.

From there, medication orders will be processed by the remote pharmacist and be available to the nurse. The remote pharmacist will consider diagnosis; allergies, sensitivities and prior adverse drug reactions; height, weight, age and sex; pregnancy and lactation status for women of childbearing potential; pertinent laboratory data; medication history and medication reconciliation reports.

The Department of State Health Services also will be entitled to use any contract awarded.
