Denton Electric Requests Smart Vegetation Management Solution

Proposed solutions must be able to detect individual trees, fall-in risks, unhealthy trees, encroachment, overhang and areas where vegetation poses a threat to power lines.

A tree that fell on top of a power line.
The city of Denton requires a smart vegetation management solution for its municipal electric utility, Denton Municipal Electric (DME).

The requested system will assist the city in creating multiyear work plans that maximize vegetation management, identifying areas with dense vegetation and estimating the cost of cycle trim areas while considering budgetary constraints, reliability risks and weather conditions.

The solution must be capable of object-based detection, vegetation indexing, risk assessment, reporting, creating vegetation density maps and gathering high-resolution satellite imagery. DME will provide any necessary system information.

Proposed solutions must be able to detect individual trees, fall-in risks, unhealthy trees, encroachment, overhang and areas where vegetation poses a threat to power lines.

More detailed information about RFP No. 8819, including all submission requirements and requests, can be found online. The due date for questions and proposal submissions is 1 p.m. May 28. Christa Christian is the point of contact for this solicitation.

The city’s 2024-25 adopted budget includes $45 million for technology-related capital improvement projects in the next five years.
