The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) released its agency strategic plan for fiscal years 2025 to 2029, where the agency detailed its intention to improve efficiency and community-based care by integrating emerging technologies.
According to the strategic plan, published June 1, part of the agency’s efforts to improve internal processes include developing “a comprehensive strategy for enhancing information technology infrastructure, including the exploration and integration of emerging technologies to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness.”
At an Industry Insider — Texas member briefing in May, Chief Information Officer Drew McGrath said the agency’s top priority is planning for a new, cloud-based case management system (CMS), which DFPS received funding for in the 88th Legislature.
The strategic plan also lists agency preparedness and resiliency in response to cybersecurity threats as an action item, which DFPS IT leaders have pointed to as another area of opportunity for emerging technologies.
At the same May member briefing, Chief Information Security Officer Jennifer Bush detailed the agency’s use of artificial intelligence to automate a majority of its tier-one and tier-two security incidents.
Finally, DFPS plans to improve community-based care systems, technical assistance and support services through upcoming IT procurements.
