About $17 million is allocated for licensing, maintenance and support, making it the largest share of citywide IT funding. These funds fall under the city’s minor equipment and furniture line item and cover a wide range of enterprise systems.
Other citywide allocations include:
- $2.6 million for phone, Internet and wireless communications
- $2.4 million for office equipment maintenance contracts
- $2.1 million for outside data processing service contracts
- $750,000 for computer equipment supplies
- $213,000 for desktop software
- $57,000 for computer-related leases
The Police Department is budgeted for $5.8 million in capital outlay for upgrading the department’s records management system and purchasing body-worn cameras for new officers.
Meanwhile, the newly established Code Enforcement Department is expected to leverage $425,000 across its minor equipment, communications and capital outlay lines to invest in data connectivity and field communications tech.
The Streets and Maintenance Department is budgeted for $1.5 million for its Vision Zero intersection safety program, which applies traffic data and engineering solutions to reduce serious crashes and improve pedestrian infrastructure.
Though not itemized in detail, two enterprise departments are continuing to deploy technology through broader initiatives:
- Sun Metro, operating under a $103 million budget, will acquire 45 electric vehicles and 14 buses, all of which are expected to include onboard technology such as diagnostics, GPS and communication systems.
- The International Bridges Department, with a $30.6 million budget, will continue implementing an intelligent transportation systems project and pedestrian facility upgrades at the Ysleta-Zaragoza port of entry.
