Juvenile Justice Department Strategy Entails Expanding Data Sharing

Many of the department's goals hinge upon the procurement of a new youth case management system, for which the agency released a solicitation request earlier this month.

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) has three main technology projects listed in its strategic plan for fiscal years 2025-2029: replacing its youth case management system (CMS), enhancing its network and expanding data-sharing capabilities.

TJJD already released a solicitation request for the CMS earlier this month. According to the strategic plan, the system will allow the agency to more effectively use data to drive decision-making, reduce time spent by staff on data entry and maintenance, improve access to essential data and enhance youth behavior monitoring.

Enhancing TJJD’s network involves improving network safeguards, expanding Wi-Fi connections to all secure locations and widening access to computers and tablets within TJJD facilities.

With the expansion of TJJD’s network comes the task of expanding data-sharing capabilities between county probation departments. The agency hopes the procurement of the aforementioned CMS will enhance data-sharing opportunities while increasing data security.

Other potential modernization areas TJJD has identified include incident reporting and audio-to-text conversions.
