McKinney Budgets $23M+ for Tech in FY 2025-26

The city of McKinney has approved a Fiscal Year 2026 budget that dedicates about $23 million in technology-related funding, to cover departmental operations, capital appropriations and other tech investments.

The Information Technology Department is budgeted at $19 million, up about 4.7 percent from the prior year. Within that total, about $7 million is earmarked for software and hardware maintenance and about $420,000 for technology equipment purchases.

In addition to the IT Department’s operating funds, the city has appropriated $2.2 million for FY 2026 through its Technology Improvement Fund. Funded projects this year include:
  • $1.3 million for core network switch replacements
  • $400,000 for broadband infrastructure expansion and replacement
  • $500,000 transfer from the water fund to support the technology program

Public safety technology also features in the budget. The Police Department is scheduled to make $1 million in Axon camera payments. Separately, the PEG Cable Channel Fund allocates about $340,000 to support media technology operations.

In total, McKinney has committed nearly $23 million to technology for FY 2026, spanning IT operations, public safety tools, capital appropriations and communications systems. The new budget will take effect Oct. 1.
