Member Briefing Will Feature Family and Protective Services IT Leadership

The CIO and CISO for the department — charged with overseeing care of the state’s most vulnerable — will speak during the exclusive event.

The chief information officer for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) will be one of two speakers at the May 2 Industry Insider — Texas Member Briefing in Austin.

Drew McGrath has led DFPS’ IT Services since late 2022, when he took the helm as interim for a short time. He has more than 27 years of IT experience, including his time within the Texas public sector.

He will be there with CISO Jennifer Bush, who has been with DFPS since 2018 and was appointed to her current role in April 2022.

“Our goal is to provide high quality discussions with agency IT leaders that are relevant to industry partners. I am excited to have DFPS at our next briefing, a department we have not featured before. Even more exciting is to have the DFPS CISO join the CIO on the panel,” said Mike Driessen, publisher of Industry Insider — Texas. “I encourage our members to be there in person as we do not provide transcripts or videos of these briefings.”

DFPS works with communities to promote safe and healthy families and protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect and exploitation by providing services, referrals and prevention programs. DFPS is the fifth-largest agency by budget, which is annually $2.6 billion. It has an estimated annual IT budget of $115 million and about 250 full-time employees and 150 contractors.

The briefing, open to Industry Insider — Texas members, is at 9:30 a.m. May 2 at the Archer Hotel, 3121 Palm Way, Austin. More details, including registration information, are available online.

Member Briefings seek to spotlight those in state government who are familiar with agency IT needs and procurement.
