Friday is his first day in the new role, a spokesperson with THECB confirmed.
Before joining the General Land Office, Peterson served as chief technology officer at the Texas Education Agency, where he directed IT operations, service desk functions and service delivery for agency staff, education service centers and school districts statewide. He also spent more than 20 years at the Office of the Attorney General in IT operations and management roles.
Peterson brings 27 years of public-sector technology experience to the coordinating board, with a background in strategic planning, budget management, contract oversight and team leadership. At the General Land Office, his work included delivery of enterprise technology solutions supporting management of 13 million acres of public land and related land and mineral rights transactions.
He succeeds Layla Young, who left the coordinating board in March to become CIO for the Office of the Texas Secretary of State. Young served as THECB CIO from 2023 to 2026.
Peterson holds a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Science in political science from Texas A&M University.
